The King of Zembla verses a Bowl of Fruit Loops
Convicting Charles Kinbote in this court of law shall not be done without the jury and the honorable judge giving equal attention to both the prosecution and the defense. As such, the defense will present the opening statement in order to show the jury why Charles Kinbote is not as guilty as the prosecution is trying to make it seem. The evidence presented in the opening statement will be further examined through witnesses and artifacts throughout the trial. In the defense’ s opinion, Charles Kinbote is the king of Zembla and is fan, and nothing more, of the late John Shade.
The substantial amount of evidence accumulated during research presents reasonable cause to consider Charles Kinbote the king of Zembla. Starting with perhaps one of the more prevalent morsels of evidence, it is mentioned by a third party that our noble Kinbote resembles the king. A lecturer from Germany mentioned that the resemblance between the two“ was‘ absolutely unheard of’”( 1962, p. 265). Humble Kinbote tries to play this off by saying that Zembla was“ a land of reflections, of‘ resemblers’” instead of admitting to his status as king( 1962, p. 265). The prosecution may use this as evidence that he was, in fact, just the neighbor of the late John Shade. However, when put into context, one can see that Charles Kinbote was trying to downplay the resemblance. Understandably, the
