No two cases are ever the same, and none are ever clearly black and white. The mysterious case of Mr. John Shade proves this statement once again to be true. We are here today trying to determine whether Mr. Charles Kinbote is just a friend of a deceased Shade or a stalker set out to kill him. The defense will try to push for an understanding of how close their defendant, Kinbote, and the deceased, Shade, were actually quite good friends and colleagues who shared fond memories and experiences together. However, I believe that the evidence I will be presenting today goes to show that Mr. Kinbote’ s presence around the Shade family was not only not welcomed, but despised. There are many instances where Mr. Kinbote seems to be lurking around the deceased and has written down much more than a normal“ friend” should know about the other. And although Mr. Shade did have heart problems, on his death there were marks on his heart and other things that would suggest an unnatural death. The defendant also claims to be some type of exiled King in the process which even furthers the notion that this man is deranged and sick in the head. This man believes things that are quite simply not there and needs to be helped. I do not come here begging for the jury to believe me, rather all I ask of the jury is to keep an open mind when hearing both sides of this case and come to a conclusion based on what evidence is presented here today rather than how the story sounds as I am here today to try and prove to you that Mr. Kinbote did indeed kill Mr. Shade.
