doesn’t travel too far from his desk in case he needs to reference his
notes, although he makes an effort to be near to the jury.
John: Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to show you that Mr. Shade died
of natural causes, more specifically a heart attack, rather than of unnatural
causes. I will start by explaining his previous heart conditions when he
was younger. Long ago, he was giving a talk to some colleagues and
peers when he suffered a heart attack.[13] It was so severe that John
Shade had believed he had died,[14]however the doctor who treated him
reassured him that he had not died but was very close.[15] This was the
first instance of his medical issues.
His heart condition further worsened as he grew older. His physical ap-
pearance suffered from his poor health. His neighbor and friend, Charles
Kinbote, explains his looks in gruesome detail.[16] His deteriorating ap-
pearance proves that his health was worsening which gives greater cause
to a heart attack.
John Shade was even forbid of alcohol consumption in efforts to strength-
en his heart. Although he often disregarded these suggestions and drank
anyway.[17] Although there were efforts to help Mr. Shade with his health,
he unfortunately died. His outstanding poor condition along with his medi-
cal history proves that John Shade in fact died of natural causes, specifi-
cally a heart attack.
John shuffles back to his table and sits appropriately where he
was. He relooks over his
notes making sure he didn’t miss a point. The judge spurts up a
cough and averts his
attention to Juan.
Judge: Thank you attorney John. Attorney Juan you have the floor. You
many proceed.
