The programme will involve a lecture, live demonstrations on Ham radio, technical experiments in wireless network, glob- al friendship, communication skills, setting up a private radio station and converting a computer or smartphone to Ham radios. Ham radio is a popular hobby and service world over, and it brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the internet or cell phones. It’s fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need as it provides communication for disasters and natural calamities etc. The awareness programme will be held at Ham Radio Station, 2nd Floor, Gate No.2, Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium, Kasturba Road on July 26, 10.30am. A first of its kind in the city, the concert is specially organised for migrant labourers who work on the metro and several construction sites in Bangalore. the organisers of the concert, Maraa, a media and arts collective, said that the idea behind organising such an event is to create a third space for the workers and the general public to interact. The concert will be open to the general public. Kalpana, who is known as the Queen of Bhojpuri music, will be launching her new album of birha songs at the performance. Kalpana has trained under Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan in Hindustani classical. Although her first language is Assamese, she sings in Bhojpuri, Hindi, English, Bengali and 23 other languages. The concert will start at 5.30 pm at Samsa Auditorium, Ravindra Kalakshetra.
