ment ). With him graduated , who in the Big Ten at 197 do you think might be set to challenge you this year ?
It ’ s hard to say because weight classes never really clear out , they just reload the next year . The 197 pounders in the Big Ten are tough , hungry wrestlers . This will make for some great battles .
Tell us about your experience placing third at 197 at this past season ’ s NCAA Tournament . What were your emotions like after majoring Patrick Downey for a place in the semis ? And after having a while to reflect on your two matches this past season with Olympian J ’ Den Cox , including in the NCAA Semifinals , what is it that makes him so tough to beat ?
I was very excited after my quarter final win over Pat Downey . It was a relief to secure the All-American status and it allowed me to compete more relaxed for the rest of the tournament . J ’ Den Cox is a very athletic wrestler and he also is constantly looking to score points . He put on a great performance at the Rio Olympics .
What are a few of your hobbies outside of wrestling ?
I like to go to other Gopher athletic events , watch movies , and hang out with my teammates and friends . We play a lot of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Wii U in my house , it gets very competitive !
You ’ ve worked JROB Intensive Camps for four summers now . What aspect of camp do you enjoy the most ? And what have you been working on improving in your own wrestling skillset this summer ?
I enjoy working with the athletes and having a direct impact on their wrestling and other parts of their lives . I ’ ve mostly worked on riding and turning from the top position this summer . I want to utilize the new back point rules more this year .
