Human Trafficking Placement : Spreading Awareness

During the 2020- 2021 league year the Human Trafficking placement was very busy . This is the first year for this placement with Junior League of Montgomery . We were able to provide two Educational & Training ( E & T ) sessions for our members . One was held in July for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and the other was held in November before two major holidays . The placement launched a social media campaign in July and sold t-shirts to show awareness about trafficking . A picture collage was made and shared on all social media platforms . The committee was able to make scripture cards for a human trafficking organization that opened in Mobile called Camille Place . These cards were made to inspire the people that would be there .
In January 2021 , the placement teamed up with Junior League of Birmingham and other leagues around the state to do statewide education and training sessions . The statewide sessions took place the whole month of January and were held at different times of the day . This committee and other Junior League members collected toiletries for the local human trafficking shelter for a Done-In-A- Day project . At the January general membership meeting , we were joined by guest speaker , MaryLou Bowdre , Assistant US Attorney of Middle District of Alabama , who spoke about human trafficking and the importance of educating your family . The placement was able to receive four proclamations denouncing human trafficking from the mayors of four cities in the River Region including Montgomery , Pike Road , Wetumpka , and Prattville .
Since January , the placement focused on getting bathroom signs put up in local businesses . The placement was able to get Eastdale Mall and the Montgomery Regional Airport to allow signs about human trafficking to be posted . The airport asked us to team up with another local non-profit that does work with human trafficking to do one combined sign with both logos . We agreed , and the signs will be put up by the airport .
This league year was one for the books due to the pandemic . We pushed through and did what needed to be done to take a stand against human trafficking .
