THIS IS THE JUNIOR LEAGUE The Road to 100 :

A

s the Junior League of Montgomery nears 100 years since its establishment in 1926 , it ’ s important to remember our past as we look to the future . In this issue , we are going to return to 1978 and the publication of Southern Keepsakes , the cookbook created by members of the Junior League of Montgomery .
Southern Keepsakes is filled with a variety of recipes that were submitted by members of the League from that time . Each recipe included in the cookbook credits the author ( s ). To learn more about Southern Keepsakes , I contacted Jean Chapman , Cookie Knott , and Cindy Seibels who were all members at the time .
Jean served as the chair of the committee and stated that the placement took place over the course of one year . She also added that the recipes were submitted by League members but that members were able to submit recipes from other people or establishments . Many of her favorite recipes in the cookbook come from classic Montgomery restaurants that have since closed including Elite Café and Green Lantern Restaurant .
Cookie served on the cookbook committee as head of marketing and creating the index . She states that it was a fun project that she enjoyed doing . Cindy recalls serving on a
