Transfer Spotlight

Jowanda Mark , is a transfer from Birmingham . She is married to Jermaine Johnson and has a 25-year-old son named Henry Davis . Henry is currently a doctoral student at UAB . Jowanda works in Montgomery as the Medical Assisting Program Director at Fortis College . She enjoys reading , listening to music , and spending time outside . While she is just transitioning into the Montgomery chapter of the Junior League , she is looking forward to serving the community and the youth of community . Jowanda is a native of Mobile and loves Mardi Gras ! As Jowanda says , “ Laissez les bons temps rouler !” ( Let the good times roll in French ).

Alicia Whalen , a transfer from the Junior League of Boston , jokes that she is doing the “ Tour de Leagues ” because of her membership in various League chapters across the country . Alicia first joined Junior League in San Diego before transferring to Durham and Orange Counties , North Carolina , Colorado Springs , Colorado , Boston , and now Montgomery . Alicia was born in the Dominican Republic and lived there until she was 10 years old before moving to the United States , so she speaks Spanish fluently . She is married to Dan , and they have a 6-month-old baby named Penelope , or Penny for short . Dan is a member of the Air Force ( transferring to the Space Force ), and he is stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base for this year . Alicia works in International Education / Study Abroad for US universities . She enjoys reading , working out , running , and attending happy hour and brunch . Alicia is looking forward to getting involved with our League by learning more about the League , supporting the community , and meeting new and interesting women and friends .

Our next transfer , Rebecca Rupff , is a third-year medical student who hopes to pursue orthopedic surgery for her residency . Rebecca was previously a member of the Junior League of Memphis and is also an avid traveler ( she ’ s visited 20 countries !). She is moving to Montgomery with her dog Titan . She has spent two years living in Dothan while attending medical school and will spend her next two years of clinical learning in Montgomery . Rebecca is looking forward to trying out all the local eateries ! She enjoys spinning , skiing , and the occasional marathon ( whether it ’ s on Netflix or the blacktop ). She is excited to begin the League year and start giving back to her new community . Originally from Michigan , joining the Junior League of Memphis gave her the opportunity to meet a wonderful network of women and learn about her community . Rebecca is extremely excited to be joining the Junior League of Montgomery !

A transfer from the Junior League of Las Vegas , Kimberly Weeth , is an international sales manager for a medical diagnostic laboratory company selling medical tests to companies and doctors overseas . Kimberly ’ s husband Daniel is an officer in the Air Force , and they just welcomed a little baby girl named Evelyn a few weeks before moving ! Kimberly notes that everyone in Montgomery has been so friendly to them . She and her husband also love how green it is here compared to the Southwest . Prior to having her daughter , Kimberly competed in triathlons and also enjoys swimming , yoga , cooking , and a good romantic comedy or historical fiction novel . She is most looking forward to volunteering around the city to get to know the areas of need and her fellow Junior League ladies . After college , Kimberly spent a few years living in Santiago , Chile , so she is also fluent in Spanish !

Kaiesha Ford , a Software Quality Assurance Engineer , is also joining our League from Mobile . She is moving to Montgomery because she received a new career opportunity that she could not decline . She tells us that she is enjoying Montgomery so far and has discovered that it is a larger version of Mobile . Kaiesha enjoys writing poetry and short stories , reading , and playing basketball and softball . She was able to attend some of our last general membership meetings via Zoom but is still getting acclimated to her new community . She is ready to start contributing ! Kaiesha notes that she has always had a heart for service since a young age . She enjoys surrounding herself with a group of ladies who encompass the same mindset and want to make a difference . She is looking forward to jumping in to contribute and experience how the League is impacting the community ! Kaiesha tells us that she would love to have a second career where she travels full-time to different restaurants around the world to eat — wouldn ’ t we all love to do this !
