Joyce Ann Jones and her twin Mary Ann Davis were born January 23, 1955 to the
late Mattie Jones and Frank Scofield II in Hughes, Arkansas.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with the
Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. E. E.
Creamer and Rev. David Neal. She remained a faithful member under the
leadership of Bishop Danny Montgomery until moving her membership to Jenning
Temple C. O. G. I. C. under the leadership of Pastor Elder Roy Eason.
Joyce Ann was one of the first black students to attend Hughes Jr. High School in
1966 under the Freedom of Choice Act and became the First Black Woman to
serve on the Hughes School Board. She earned her GED Diploma and went on to
attended East Arkansas Community College where she earned her Associates
Degree. Joyce Ann was always a hard worker and she held positions at Simplot,
the Hughes School District as a Teacher's Aide, Anthony as an insurance agent
and Maywood Apartments as manager.
Joyce Ann was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 16,
2016 at Terrell Healthcare Nursing Home in Terrell, Texas. She is preceded in
death by her parents; Mattie Jones and Frank Scofield II, her sisters Debra Ann
Jones, Betty M. Walker and her brother Monroe Scofield.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her two daughters, Mettie Jones of
Heartland, TX and Tyskia Jones of West Memphis, AR; two sons, Jerome Jones of
Little Rock, AR and Ronnie Jones of Dallas, TX; one Goddaughter, Joyce Tucker of
West Memphis, AR; seven brothers, Charles ( Opra) Jones and Perry Wayne (Rose)
Jones of Hughes, AR, Rev. Frank (Pamela) Scofield III of Marion, AR, Calvin
(Crystal ) Scofield of Atlanta, GA, Henry (Katie) Scofield and William McNeely of
Hughes and Johnnie Cole of West Memphis, AR; eight sisters, Carolyn Jones and
Donna Faye Jones of Buffalo, New York, Mary Ann (Adam) Davis of Hughes, AR,
Climtine Brown of Marion, AR, Linda Lockhart and Jessica Scofield of Hughes, AR,
Rebecca (Carl) Robinson of Memphis, TN, and Koronda Moore of West Memphis,
AR; 13 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and
friends who will miss her dearly.
