Named after a century-old Jamaican term for the neighborhood apothecaries ’ that dispensed physical and spiritual remedies , the collection is born out of Gunn ’ s personal shift to a more natural beauty regimen but also serves as a distinct homage to the Caribbean . Ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible . “ This place has benefited me and my life in so many ways , and I want to make sure that I ’ m giving back and stimulating the economy as much as I can ,” Gunn explains .

The cocoa butter that turns up in the Baby Love Balm , a lip-and-cheek tint , is one such Jamaican find ; boosted with coconut oil , the formula doubles down on hydration , while hibiscus flower extract supplies the sheer plum pigment . “ It works on everyone — really ,” she says of the universal shade , noting that it can be layered for depth .
