SUCCESSFUL GARDENER Host: Lauren Hill Caring for houseplants Caring for plants doesn’t need to be a chore. House- plants are a great introduction to plant care for those with little to no gardening experience. Houseplant care tips: • Houseplants are native to more tropical climates and are not cold hardy. They do well in a tempera- ture range of 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. • Houseplants can grow well in low light or light filtered from blinds or curtains. • Protect houseplants from air vents and drafty windows in the winter. • Houseplants need humidity. Occasionally mist the plants with a spray bottle, use a humidifier or place them in a bathroom while you run a hot shower. • Houseplants are typically drought tolerant and do not need much water. Depending on the plant, a weekly or bi-weekly watering will suffice. • Fertilizer requirements are also low or unnecessary, UPCOMING PROGRAM Vegetable Gardening Thursday, March 21, 6 – 7 p.m. Kannapolis Library Free to the public Beneficial beauty Easy-care houseplants that purify the air and add a warmth to your home or office: • • • • • • Snake Plant Money Tree Peace Lily Pothos Rubber Tree Dracena depending on the plant. • There are a variety of containers you can utilize for your houseplants.
