When the first positive case of COVID was recorded in Afghanistan , people panicked and started buying in bulk . We frequently ran out of stock , especially foodstuffs and sanitizers . Customers pleaded with us to give them a bit of anything so they could feed the kids and elders at home .
It was very painful not to be able to help them . In my 16 years as a shopkeeper , I have never witnessed a situation like that .
I wear protective gear to prevent catching the virus . Every day , we disinfect the store to keep our customers safe . Every evening I disinfect my gear and hang it in the store ’ s washroom before going home to my family . My wife
