If his children can finish school they have
a much greater chance at a good life. They
could become leaders in their communities. On
a grander scale, they could lead a new, skilled
generation of Afghans out of war. However, Jan
Mohammad’s happiness is colored with caution.
Every day, the fighting gets closer and closer to
their neighborhood. Every week the violence is
more extreme. He worries that it will reach their
school and force it to close.
Despite the risk to his safety, Jan Mohammad
says he will continue protecting the children at
his school. It is his greatest wish that donors will
not give up on the people of Afghanistan. He asks
for their ongoing support in these troubled times.
“I know that Kamp-e Farm Hada School
where I work is supported by Star of Knowledge
(SKO), with funds from Central Asia Institute,”
he said. “Star of Knowledge provides tents and
educational support to the students and teachers.
Recently, SKO constructed new washrooms and
renovated some of the old facilities.”
Jan Mohammad thanked SKO and CAI for sup-
porting Kamp-e Farm Hada for so many years,
but we should be thanking him too. Under his
faithful protection hundreds of students are
able to study every day, in safety. Thank you, Jan
Mohammad for being a hero of education. l
