CLASSROOM BEFORE AND AFTER
A classroom should help students focus. At these two schools, it often did the opposite. Freezing air came through broken windows. Walls, ceilings, and floors carried decades of wear. In some rooms, little had changed since the 1980s.
" At School # 7, CAI-T renovated the classrooms used by the schoolchildren and teachers, creating a cleaner, brighter, and more comfortable environment for teaching and learning," says Mahbuba Qurbonalieva, CAI-T ' s Program Director. At School # 8, a full renovation of the second school building was finished in June 2026. When students returned on September 1 for the new academic year, they stepped into classrooms transformed by the first major upgrade their school had seen in a generation.
The change is more than cosmetic. In a classroom that holds its heat, students can concentrate on the lesson instead of the cold, and teachers can teach without stopping to manage it. And on the harshest days of the mountain winter, when a leaky building would send everyone home, a weatherproof one simply stays open.

" Before the indoor toilets were available, some parents were reluctant to bring their small children to the ECD center during the winter— the children had to go outside in heavy snow and very cold weather. Now, the ECD children have a warm, safe, comfortable toilet facility inside the building, and the outdoor toilet gives older students much better sanitation than before.
Together with the renovated classrooms, these improvements have created a healthier, cleaner, more welcoming school environment."— Mahbuba Qurbonalieva, CAI-T Program Director
