Transforming Schools in Tajikistan: Before and After

Getting to the villages of Sokhcharv and Derzud takes most of a day. The road climbs for hours through the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan ' s Gorno-Badakhshan region, part of what is often called the " Roof of the World." The scenery is extraordinary. So is the isolation. Thin infrastructure, brutal winters, and decades of underinvestment have left many communities without the means to maintain their public buildings, and schools are usually the first to suffer.
