DC COMICS

DC Comics. A corporation that specializes in creating comic book characters. Characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and many others. And with teams such as the Justice League, Justice League of America, Dark Justice League, Teen Titans, Legion of Superheroes, and many others. And it is no surprise we would develop a deep affection towards families such as the Krypto Family, or The Bat family. But where did this all start?

Background

In 1934 the company was founded by an Entrepreneur Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. During that time they were called National Allied Publications. The initials for the DC Comic books were from taken from the Detective Comic series. In 1935, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman, created Doctor Occult, who is the earliest DC Comics character to still be in the DC Universe. Years later what would become the most known Superhero on earth appeared. Superman. His debut was in 1938, followed by the Trinity, Batman in 1939, and Wonderwoman in 1941. Despite their official names of National Comics and National Periodical Publications in 1966, the company began calling themselves DC Comics before adopting the name officially in 1977. They used to work in New york, but now reside in Burbank California.

1)George Clooney was once giving an interview when the conversation shifted to the topic of his alleged homosexuality. When asked if he’d ever play a gay character in a film, he said he already did when he had played Batman (Batman and Robin, 1997).
