Small town roots, growing community

Nestled in the heart of Johnson County, the City of Joshua has built a reputation as a friendly, family-oriented community that blends small-town charm with steady growth. With strong schools, local businesses, and a close-knit community, Joshua continues to attract families and businesses looking for opportunity without leaving behind hometown values.

With an estimated population of 9,549, the city has seen an increase over the last decade and continues to attract new residents and businesses every year. Covering more than 6.5 square miles, Joshua is dedicated to promoting a positive city identity, enhancing public safety and infrastructure, and fostering planned community growth.
Joshua’ s history dates back to the late 1800s when the railroad expanded through Johnson County. The town was established along the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, which helped bring settlers, businesses, and agriculture to the area. Early residents were primarily farmers and ranchers, and the
railroad allowed them to ship crops and livestock to larger markets.
Like many small Texas towns, Joshua grew slowly but steadily through the early 1900s. Schools, churches, and small businesses became the center of community life, and many families who settled in Joshua generations ago still call the area home today.
One of the defining features of Joshua is the strong sense of pride surrounding Joshua ISD. The school district plays a major role in community life, with athletic events, band performances, and school activities bringing residents together throughout the year.
The district has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting the city’ s population growth. New facilities, expanded programs, and continued community support have helped Joshua ISD remain a central part of the town’ s identity.
In recent years, Joshua has seen new neighborhoods, businesses, and infrastructure improvements while working to maintain the small-town atmosphere residents value. Its location along Texas 174 makes it an easy commute to Fort
Worth, Burleson, and Cleburne, making Joshua an attractive place for families who work in nearby cities but want a quieter place to live.
Despite growth, community events, youth sports, school activities, and local churches continue to bring residents together, creating the kind of environment where neighbors know each other and community involvement is strong.
City leaders and residents continue to focus on responsible growth, infrastructure improvements, and economic development while preserving the character that makes Joshua unique. With continued residential development and new businesses opening, the city is positioned for continued growth in the coming years.
Joshua remains a place where tradition and progress meet— a community proud of its history, supportive of its schools, and excited about its future.
