Residents of Joshua don’ t have to travel far to find recreation, fitness opportunities and family activities. Two of the community’ s most popular places— Joshua City Park and the Joshua Community YMCA— provide year-round opportunities for outdoor fun, sports, fitness and community programs.

JOSHUA CITY PARK

Joshua City Park— 831 N. Main St.— is one of the main gathering places in the city and hosts youth sports, community events and family activities throughout the year.

Over the years, the park has grown and improved to meet the needs of the city’ s growing population while remaining a place where families and neighbors come together.

Today, the park includes playgrounds, walking trails, a splash pad, pavilions, open green space and multiple baseball and softball fields. Youth sports are a major part of park activity, with local baseball and softball leagues bringing families to the park throughout the spring and summer. On game nights, the fields are filled with players, parents and fans, making the park one of the busiest places in the city.

The splash pad has become especially popular during the hot North Texas summers, providing a place for children to cool off and play. The park pavilions are frequently used for birthday parties, family reunions and community gatherings, and the open space allows room for festivals, events and outdoor activities.

The park is open from 5 a. m. to 11 p. m. daily, unless special permission is obtained. The splash pad opens the week of Memorial Day holiday and closes the day after Labor. It is open from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. daily.

JOSHUA COMMUNITY YMCA

In 2013, the city of Joshua opened the Joshua Community YMCA at 1009 Joshua Station Blvd. The 6,000-squarefoot facility sits behind Brookshire’ s Grocery Store and includes indoor and outdoor areas.

Programs offered at YMCA facilities differ based on needs, meaning rec center members will have input on what programs are available. Those who join the center will also be encouraged to participate in volunteer activities.

The recreation center includes stateof-the art workout equipment, an outdoor water park, a youth and teen area, group exercise rooms and a child watch room.

Amenities include:
