JISD Bond Projects Bring Growth and Upgrades

Joshua ISD is moving forward with several major construction and renovation projects funded through the district’ s bond 2024 program, aimed at accommodating growth, improving facilities and enhancing safety across the district.

The bond program— totaling more than $ 106 million— was developed after district officials studied enrollment growth, facility conditions and long-term planning needs.
JISD has experienced significant growth in recent years and is projected to add more than 1,500 students over the next decade, making additional classroom space and facility improvements necessary.
Voters approved four propositions on May 4, 2024. WRA Architects is serving as the architects for each project. With over 70 years of experience, WRA specializes in designing educational facilities and learning environments that serve communities across Texas.
The district is serving as the general contractor on all projects. Contracts are between the subcontractor and JISD. The district construction manager handles all request for bid
proposals for the JISD board of trustees to approve.
One of the largest projects included in the bond program is the construction of a new elementary school. The new campus will be about 92,500 square feet and will be built to modern standards for safety, energy efficiency and updated learning spaces. The school will be located in the Panchasarp Farms subdivision area behind QuikTrip on Texas 174.
The district officially broke ground on the new elementary school in May 2025, marking a major milestone in the bond construction program.
Bond funds are also being used for an addition at Nichols Middle School to help accommodate enrollment growth. The addition includes about 15,600 square feet of new space, including 11 additional classrooms plus a science lab. The expansion will increase the campus capacity to about 1,000 students.
Another major component of the bond program included renovation and expansion projects at Joshua High School. These improvements include updates to the cafeteria and kitchen areas, which have been completed.
Also included is the expansion and renovation of the Career and Technical Education facility to support workforce training programs and career pathways for students. Those projects are expected to be completed in fall 2026.
Bond projects also include districtwide facility upgrades focused on safety, infrastructure and maintenance needs. Planned improvements include HVAC replacements, paving improvements at multiple campuses, fire alarm replacements, public address systems, security cameras and other safety upgrades.
Proposition D projects are underway at several campuses across JISD.
Caddo Grove Elementary School, Elder Elementary School, JHS athletic fieldhouse and NJROTC building have already received updates to the public announcement systems, while several campuses have had upgrades to their external security cameras.
Plum Creek Elementary School is scheduled to have rooftop HVAC units replaced over summer 2026.
Additional improvements will be made in the future. This project does not have a specific timeframe established for its completion.
