WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO'S GREATEST NIGHT
DAVID HAYE - IMTECH ARENA - UNANIMOUS DECISION (02-07-2011)
Who can forget the unification bout between IBF and WBO king Klitschko and WBA holder David Haye?
In complete contrast to the build up to Joshua v Klitschko, the outspoken Haye showed his Ukranian opponent no respect and continually labelled "Dr Steelhammer" as a fraud. Promising to breath new life into the heavyweight division, Haye travelled to Hamburg and the 45,000 watching fans expected fireworks.
What they actually saw was a Klitschko masterclass. The then 35-year-old bullied the "Hayemaker" for 12 rounds.
Haye complained of a broken toe in the aftermath and received wide criticism for making excuses after such a resounding defeat.
His tweet of "Broken toe 3 weeks ago, meant I couldn't shoot right hand like I'm used to" saw him ridiculed throughout the world of boxing and he has never truly lived it down.
The three judges scorecards of 117-10, 118-108, 116-110 were more than justified as Klitschko boxed behind his jab and caught Haye with some mean right hand crosses that would have stopped lesser opponents.
The aftermath of fights usually see a warm embrace between two warriors. Not this time. Klitschko was in no mood to kiss and make up with Haye after his pre fight antics.
"I've been criticised by David Haye. After three rounds he basically gave up, he was very cautious. I didn't really get challenged in the ring in the way of an offensive fight. He was fighting like all of my opponents. I would have loved to celebrate my 50th knockout.
"I'm not okay with his behaviour, it's disgraceful to the sport."
