JOSHUA NAVY ROTC
Joshua High School is also home to a nationally-recognized Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program .
Joshua Navy JROTC is consistently ranked as one of the best NJROTC programs and in Area 19 ( Texas , New Mexico and Colorado ) and in the world by the Naval Service Training Command . The ratings are based on academics , scholarships , competitions and community service projects . After the 2023-24 school year , the unit earned the Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors designation by Area 19 .
Since 2008 , 13 JISD cadets have been awarded the Bronze Cross of Achievement by The Legion of Valor . The award is the highest honor a cadet can receive , given to only 50 high school or college cadets nationally each year . The Legion of Valor is a fraternal organization of Medal of Honor and Service Cross recipients .
The purpose of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program is to instill a value of citizenship , service to the United States , personal responsibility , and a sense of accomplishment . It does not seek any particular commitment to the military . They offer several teams for cadets to participate in if they wish to be more active within the unit . These teams are run by cadet commanders . Each team requires members to be present for practices and competitions to be held in and outside of school hours .
Every team has a minimum requirement that entails the cadet must be passing all classes and have zero conduct issues . They strongly encourage that all cadets join a team . Joining a team will not only provide a better experience for the cadets but improve the quality of our unit .
The NJROTC unit supports a wide range of activities . Each activity is open to any cadet , in good standing , who wishes to
