Kidsread

Now in its fourth year, the kidsREAD partnership between SJI and Bendemeer Primary School continues to receive enthusiastic support from Josephians. The National Library Board’ s nationwide reading programme serves young Singaporeans from less privileged backgrounds and SJI volunteers dedicate Wednesday afternoons to running sessions for Primary 1 and 2 students.

Each session features a story-reading segment, followed by NLB-curated STEAM( science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) activities before ending with individual reading. Volunteers carefully review the materials beforehand to prepare for storytelling and activity facilitation, ensuring engaging and meaningful learning experiences for the children.
Through their weekly commitment, volunteers build strong rapport with their young buddies, mentoring them with patience and dedication. In doing so, they not only nurture a love for reading but also provide positive role models who embody the Lasallian spirit of being Men and Women for Others, making a lasting difference in the lives of their beneficiaries.
