Josephians learn more about the stars

Astronomy Club

SJI Astronomy had an inspiring and impactful year, combining service, learning and exploration of the night sky. The flagship event,“ Picnic Under the Stars,” partnered with BEACON to raise nearly $ 1,000 for Bali Baby Home, supporting abandoned infants and at-risk mothers in Bali, while fostering curiosity about astronomy within SJI.
Weekly theory sessions deepened members’ academic understanding, covering celestial navigation, cosmology, telescope operation and star-chart reading, which were applied during stargazing nights. These activities helped teams achieve success in the Astro Challenge and Astro Olympiad, earning three bronze, two silver and one gold medal.
Building Bonds
Beyond academics, Astronomy expanded its service and community outreach. Project Connections with PRISM engaged children with rare skin conditions through stargazing and astronomy-themed activities, while programmes such as RI Astronite enabled collaboration with over 20 schools, sharing knowledge and strengthening Singapore’ s astronomy network.
