DIARY OF EVENTS |
Josephians had the unique opportunity to participate in workshops and dialogues focused on promoting racial and religious harmony . These sessions aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate diversity with sensitivity , a crucial aspect of fostering a harmonious society .
Year 5 Josephians attended the Race , Religion , and Intergroup Cohesion ( RRIC ) workshop , organised by the Institute of Policy Studies ( IPS ), a research centre under the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy . The workshop engaged students with discussions on identifying various forms of racism and how to respond constructively to such situations . One highlight included a poll based on real-life scenarios , revealing the diverse perceptions of racism even among students .
The workshop also featured a forum theatre segment through which students engaged in role-playing exercises to better understand how to respond constructively to challenging situations . Pappu Krishiv ( LE506 ) said , “ It can be difficult to respond constructively to racist remarks because of the emotional reaction they provoke , but the workshop reminded us of the importance of trying .”
Year 3 and 4 Josephians engaged with Ms Nazhath Faheema , founder of hash . peace , a youth-led social harmony advocacy group . Ms Faheema shared her personal motivations for promoting racial harmony , rooted in her own experiences with racism . She emphasised the importance of engaging and educating others to create a more inclusive society .
The SJI community came together , filled with pride and excitement , to celebrate our nation ’ s 59th year of independence . The day kicked off with a vibrant display of patriotism , followed by a fun and energetic mass exercise routine that got everyone moving .
It was heartwarming to see students , teachers , and staff unite in a shared spirit of togetherness and joy . This celebration not only reminded us of the importance of our national heritage but also strengthened our bonds as a school community where all of us are valued and respected , for who we are .

Vice-Principal Mr . Dominic Ang highlighted Ms Faheema ’ s contributions as an example of how individuals can make a positive impact in the community . Her dedication to fostering harmony serves as inspiration for Josephians to contribute meaningfully to society .
Both workshops provided invaluable insights into promoting racial and religious harmony , reminding students of their role in fostering inclusivity in Singapore ’ s diverse society .
