DIARY OF EVENTS |
On 2 August , the SJI community gathered for an unforgettable evening of drama and music , presented by the five Performing Arts groups at SJI . This year ’ s Mutien Festival embraced the theme ‘ Believe ,’ reflecting the performers ’ journey together to conquer challenges , embrace their talents , and shine on stage .
Junior members showcased their skills with confidence , demonstrating the growth and dedication of months of practice . The Pipe Band mesmerized us with their renditions of beloved classics . This was followed by the Drama Club ’ s touching portrayal of a coming-of-age story . The Vocal Ensemble then delivered a spectacular performance , filling the first half of the festival with heartwarming moments .
In the second half , the SJI Symphonic Band and the Guitar Ensemble delighted the audience with familiar tunes , from iconic soundtracks to trending hits . The festival culminated with a powerful combined performance of “ When You Believe ” by the SJI Symphonic Band and Vocal Ensemble , echoing the theme of faith and self-belief , inspired by the song from the animated movie Prince of Egypt .
Mutien Festival 2024 was a night to remember for both the audience and performers .
On 20 July , SJI held the muchanticipated Mahalo Carnival , marking its return after a six-year hiatus with the enthusiastic support of Josephians past and present . The school grounds were filled with excitement as students , staff , and families came together for a day of fun and festivity , in support of the Migrant Workers ’ Centre ( MWC ).
The carnival kicked off with a showcase of student talent , featuring performances that ranged from captivating dance routines to musical acts , highlighting the diverse skills and passions within the school community .
Students took the lead , managing interactive booths that offered games , face painting , and crafts . These handson activities engaged participants of all ages and fostered a sense of camaraderie among peers .
The air was filled with the tantalising aroma of delectable treats at the food fair , offering a variety of mouthwatering options from nasi lemak to pizza . Both children and parents delighted in the sweet indulgence of popcorn , cotton candy , and ice cream , generously sponsored by the SJI Old Boys Association ( SJIOBA ). Excitement mounted as the lucky draw took place , with winners walking away with an array of prizes generously donated by our Parents Support Group ( PSG ).
Our Principal , Mr . Justin Arul Pierre shared , “ We had an awesome carnival , and many students – past and present – teachers , parents , and guests shared with me that they had a wonderful time and experience .” He also expressed his immense gratitude towards the staff and students for their hard work and efforts in making this event a success .
