“ Fulfil your ministry with all the affection of your heart ” was the advice St John Baptist de La Salle gave to his Brothers . The fundamental meaning of ‘ ministry ’ is that of service , of offering one ’ s skills , knowledge , and effort , to others for their betterment . In the Catholic Christian ministry , such service is always given in the light and presence of God , with no expectation of reward or recognition . Aeden , in many ways , has lived out that ministry in the past six years as a student of St Joseph ’ s Institution .
An active member of the SJI Student Council , Aeden was involved in taking charge of a number of the council ’ s activities . As a member of the Community Committee , he was involved in organising the Y4 IP Talk to help the Y4IP students better transit into their Year 5 . His ability to learn from experiences goes beyond just benefiting himself . He is consistently helpful and respectful not only towards those in authority but also his peers and juniors . His time with the student council demonstrated his resourcefulness , adaptability , and capacity for working with and in a team . Aeden was a core member of the Year 5 Orientation Camp Organising Team Executive Committee and was instrumental in ensuring the successful running of the camp .
Theatre work is very involved and demands a high level of commitment which Aeden willingly and more importantly , happily gave of his own , well outside the demands of academia . COVID-19 nearly upended his participation in the event . His enthusiasm was such that he ensured he recovered fully and could return to school safely . He acted responsibly towards the team .
Aeden ’ s engagement with his Catholic faith was evident in his journey in the Legion of Mary , where he actively participated in and organised various activities and events that cultivated the spirituality of the Catholic students . His effort in this regard was like the yeast in the bread of the school , leavening it , and nudging the permeation of faith and service in the community . He espouses and enacts ministry in humility , remembering always that he is in the presence of God . Aeden ’ s passion for life , his conviction about truth , and his ministering to others embody the words of the prophet Micah , “ Remember , O man , what is good and what the Lord requires of you : That you act justly , love mercy , and walk humbly with your God .”
Aeden worked closely with the teachers on a project that was an extension of the “ Global Issues Festival 2022 ”. Called “ After Dark ”, it was an experiential theatre consisting of literary vignettes . He was part of the leading committee , worked as a crew member , and acted in one of the scenes .
