Kenan is an unassuming , positive and tenacious student who has grown from strength to strength as an athlete and young man . He has continually allowed the various experiences and challenges he has faced over the years to shape his values and character . In particular , through his exploits at Sailing , with close to a decade of dedication to the sport , he has built countless memories and formed experiences which have been nothing short of astounding .
With his warm and reassuring ways , Kenan establishes good rapport with his peers . He served as a role model for his peers by adhering to moral values and ethical conduct . An active and empathetic listener , Kenan seeks to understand the perspectives and experiences of others .
Disciplined and tenacious in his academic pursuits , Kenan taps on his analytical and inquiring mind to express his ideas and thoughts constructively . To delve into a deeper understanding of concepts , he does not hesitate to raise thoughtful and insightful questions to seek clarity . His ability to balance his academic responsibilities and sporting commitments is a testament to his impeccable time management skills and unwavering dedication to excellence .
A committed Captain of SJI Sailing , Kenan fought to bring glory to the school through an array of competitions such as the National School Games ( NSG ) Sailing Championships C-Division in 2020 and 2021 , and the National Sailing Centre ( NSC ) Cup in 2021 . During the NSG Sailing Championships B-Division Boys Laser 4.7 in 2022 and 2023 , Kenan achieved the 1st individual placing . His sporting endeavours extended to representing the country in international regattas such as the Optimist World Championships 2021 , where he emerged as the top 60 amongst more than 250 competitors . He was also part of the inaugural Singapore SailGP regatta in 2023 . Other significant International Competitions include the 2023 International Laser Class Association ( ILCA ) Asian Open Championship in China where he represented Singapore and achieved 3rd position . Kenan ’ s passion for sailing drove him to commit many hours of practice to sharpen his skills . His sporting achievements were recognised as he was a recipient of the annual Singapore School Sports Council ( SSSC ) Colours Award in 2020 . Additionally , Kenan was also presented the NSG Sportsmanship Award in 2022 and he received the Peter Lim Scholarship award in 2023 . His unparalleled work ethic and positive attitude were inspirational to those around him , driving them to strive for excellence .
Beyond the confines of the sports arena and the classroom , Kenan ’ s leadership extends to other aspects of his life . An advocate for being a Man for Others , he eagerly sought opportunities to engage the community , such as through the Get Kids Afloat programme , a partnership with SAF Yacht Club and Singapore Sailing Club in 2021 and 2022 respectively . He also dedicated time and energy to helping out in the Community Development Council ( CDC ) Voucher Scheme in 2023 , supporting the community in the redemption of vouchers . Kenan ’ s commitment to community service showcases his true character as a compassionate , empathetic individual .
Reflecting on his involvement in the sport that spans more than 10 years , Kenan has grown and matured to become more hardworking and disciplined . Above all , he values the relationships and community that have supported him and enabled him to realise his aspirations .
