CHAPTER 5

SQUASH

The SJI Squash players trained hard in 2023 . Despite the smaller number of members , they made up for this with their redoubled passion and drive for the sport .
An average training session is well-rounded and consists of drills to master shots , as well as doubles match-ups where players test their skills against their dedicated Coach Gan , along with singles matches against each other to sharpen their skills . Through this year , the atmosphere during training sessions at CCAB Evans Road remained lively and the players formed a close-knit community .
Given the demanding requirements of the sport , the team did not shy away from physical conditioning . On selected training days , members were assigned the task of preparing a list of physical exercises . This ensured that everyone remained fit and in their best physical condition .
As a result of their dedicated training , the players performed well in the National Schools Games this year , clinching the 3rd runner-up position in both the B and C-Divisions . It is the first time in 12 years that the SJI Squash team has ranked within the top four positions .
Sporting commitments and achievements aside , the team collaborated with the SJI Basketball CCA to run a clothes donation drive . Over the 2-week collection period , students and teachers alike supported both CCAs heartily with their generous donations . These donations were then passed on to The Salvation Army in Singapore .
Squash in SJI goes beyond training athletes — this CCA shapes students who embody Josephian values .
