SAILING
In 2023 , SJI sailors embraced rigorous training for upcoming competitions while skilfully balancing this alongside their academic commitments . Guided by the mantra “ Raise the challenge and we will rise above ”, their unity fueled impressive teamwork . Bolstered by dedicated coaches , SJI secured its best-ever performance in the National Schools Games . Noteworthy victories included Kenan Tan ( FN401 ) and Russell Yom ( FN604 ) emerging as champions in the ILCA4 and ILCA6 categories respectively , while Nigel Tan ( MN102 ) was ranked 2nd overall for the C-Division Optimist class . The rest of the sailing team showcased their excellent performance as well .

Beyond the National School Games , the sailors continued to showcase their exceptional skills in external competitions . Notably , during the competitive Singapore Youth Championship , SJI sailors shone once again . Russell Yom and Kenan Tan achieved dual triumphs in both the ILCA6 and ILCA4 events respectively , showcasing their remarkable skills on the water . The team ’ s strength was further underscored when Felix Koo ( FN401 ) won the ILCA6 Under-16 prize . With Zachary Zhang ( ML302 ) finishing 3rd in the ILCA6 Under-16 category , the depth of the team ’ s talent is undeniable .
The sailors ’ strong commitment towards community development compelled them to actively engage in the ‘ Get Kids Afloat ’ initiative . As a CCA , they dedicated a week to teach underprivileged children the fundamentals of sailing , including boat handling and knot tying , while imparting valuable life skills . This effort not only promotes inclusivity within the sailing community , but also left a meaningful and lasting impact on the participants .
