CHAPTER 5
RUGBY
Rugby , a timeless sport created in the year 1823 , is usually played with 15 players on each team over 80 minutes . It is a sport that demands a cohesive team as it is quite unlike other team sports , where there are designated attackers and defenders . In Rugby , the 15 players are grouped into forwards and backs while they attack and defend at the same time , leaving little to no breathing room when the game is ongoing .
Here in SJI , the rugby team trains three times a week for three hours at each stretch . Currently , there are about 70 rugby players spread across the B and C-Divisions . This year , all CCA members strove to be the best contributing player at friendly matches and the National School Games . With the help of dedicated coaches and teachers-in-charge , the CCA has able to produce many skilled and talented players .
Over the course of this year , the team ’ s hard work and intense focus during their training sessions paid off . They performed impressively at games and tournaments , with the B-Division being placed 1st at the Raffles Institution 10-a-side Tournament and 3rd runner-up at the National School Games , as well as the C-Division securing a 3rd runner-up placing at the Singapore Rugby Union Blacks Schools Sevens .
