CHAPTER 5
JUDO
Judo , often translated as “ the gentle way ,” is a traditional Japanese martial art renowned for its emphasis on technique and leverage , with a deliberate avoidance of relying solely on brute strength . Practitioners of judo , known as judoka , undergo rigorous training in a range of techniques , including throws , pins , and submissions . These techniques are designed to enable judoka to control and subdue their opponents . Even so , judo is far more than a physical pursuit . It instills a profound set of values within its practitioners , emphasising the development of respect , discipline , and sportsmanship .
The C-Division Judokas
The Josephian judokas in the B-Division team delivered a stunning performance , securing an impressive 2nd placing overall at the fiercely competitive National School Games Judo competition . This achievement was highlighted by Gauthier Hugo ( FN402 ), whose dedication and talent were recognised by his well-deserved gold medal . Goh Chuang Gin ( MN403 ) also showcased remarkable prowess , earning himself a 3rd position . Equally importantly , the C-Division team , though not victorious , displayed commendable sportsmanship and unwavering resilience , a testament to the invaluable lessons learnt through their journey .
In keeping with the CCA ’ s commitment to community engagement and the holistic development of each member , judokas initiated a Values in Action ( VIA ) project . They eagerly assumed the role of educators , imparting English language skills to students from Gangjin Middle School in Korea . Through interactive lessons and cultural exchanges , the Josephians not only deepened their language proficiencies , but also shared the rich tapestry of their Lasallian heritage and culture .
These significant accomplishments and outreach initiatives serve as a testament to the unwavering dedication and multifaceted growth that this CCA cultivates within its members . Each year , the members ’ commitment to nurturing their skills is renewed . As a consequence , judokas are well-rounded individuals who look forward to continued achievements and meaningful contributions in the future , both on and off the judo mat .
