CANOEING

Coming back in full swing , SJI ’ s Canoeing Team demonstrated their unwavering dedication and skill during the National Inter-School Canoe Championship in 2023 . Their exceptional performance saw them clinching gold medals in events such as the C2 100m , C2 500m , and the K1 500m categories . They defended SJI ’ s top-four National title by clinching overall 3rd runner-up position in both B and C-Divisions . This achievement is particularly remarkable given that the team had to overcome steep competition impeded by two years of limited water training .
Josephian Canoeists also voluntarily competed in various other competitions such as the Pesta Sukan Canoe Sprint Championships and Singapore Canoe Marathon . In Pesta Sukan , athletes displayed their prowess on the water by earning accolades in events such as the Under-14 JK1 2000m and Under-14 K1 2000m . Similarly , at the Singapore
Canoe Marathon , canoeists triumphed in events such as the Under-14 K4 500m , Under-14 K4 1000m and Under-16 C2 500m . These competitions allowed them to gain valuable experience , as well as to refine and hone their skills for forthcoming challenges .
Our Year 3 canoeists also extended their hospitality by hosting international guests from La Salle College , Hong Kong . During the visit , cultural exchanges , friendly competitions , and exchanges of classroom learning experiences took place . These interactions allowed canoeists to be part of the global Lasallian Community .
Furthermore , canoeists who were part of the National Junior Team had the honour of competing internationally at the 2023 Asia Pacific Sprint Cup , New Zealand , and 2023 Olympic Hopes Regatta in Poznan , Poland . These international platforms certainly continued to shape their development as canoeists .
SJI Canoeing Team ’ s accomplishments in 2023 stand as proof of their unyielding dedication , passion , and talent . Despite the challenges posed , they navigated their way to success , earning recognition at both national and international competitions .
