LEARNING JOURNEYS & PROGRAMMES
Learning the capsize drill on a sit-in tandem kayak
PUTT SAWASMONGKOL ( LE303 )
My experience as an ACE Peer Support Leader ( PSL ) was one of my first opportunities to apply myself as a student leader . I learnt the importance of fostering a sense of shared responsibility . Teamwork and togetherness were the solution to ensuring the class was organised . I was able to see the Year 2 class grow and mature as their mindset shifted from city life to the outdoors . They were becoming more independent and responsible . I saw them conquer their fears and form lasting bonds with their classmates .
LIM KAI-LER ( FN202 )
I thoroughly enjoyed when it rained heavily on the second day . We were in our tent and water dripped in from every side . As it continued to rain , my tent mates and I decided to make things better . We placed a plastic container to collect the rainwater from the leaking roof and dried the tent with a used T-shirt . We then took out some snacks and played UNO . We learnt many new skills and I will cherish these moments .
CHRIS KOH ( MN201 )
At the ACE Camp , we faced many challenges as we tried to learn new skills , like kayaking and outdoor cooking . One day , after a sumptuous breakfast , we navigated the routes around Sungei Mamam . Soon , it began to rain . While others reached for their raincoats and ponchos , I decided to walk in the rain and enjoy the cool droplets falling on my skin . I realised that despite the hardships of camping , I could have fun doing my own thing .
CANOEING CONTACT TIME ( 11 - 30 OCTOBER 2023 AT PASIR PARK , AREA 4 )
SARAVANAN NITHISH ( FN101 )
I participated in the Year 1 Canoeing Contact Time . I was able to be self-disciplined and resilient . Although I felt tired at times , I did not want to give up . With the encouragement from the coaches , I felt motived to complete the circuit and the capsize drills . I also found working with my tandem partner rewarding as we coordinated our strokes through teamwork and cooperation . Now , I am a more robust and resilient Josephian .
DAVID EMMANUEL BLOODWORTH ( FN101 )
The Canoeing Contact Time programme allowed me to learn to be ‘ Men for Others ’. I guided my friends who had trouble turning their kayaks on the water . Our coaches had emphasised safe practices during the course and our confidence out at sea increased as the day progressed .
