CHAPTER 4

SIGNUM FIDEI

A group from FN301 explaining their prototype to a Year 2 IP student during Innovathon
The Signum Fidei ( SF ) Programme aims to equip the Year 3 and 4 Josephians on the IP track with necessary skills that can be used beyond the four walls of the classroom . Striving to provide students with a wider view of global concerns and issues , SF requires Josephians to exercise innovation and design thinking processes , systematically and scientifically , to offer fresh perspectives on issues they are passionate about . Bearing in mind the UN Sustainability Goals , students are challenged to use a forward-looking mindset to design a product that will be useful and sustainable for society at large .
Year 3 IP students underwent a year-long table-top innovative and design thinking curriculum , where they worked in groups to develop their creative and critical thinking abilities in the design of new prototypes . They presented their final product at the annual SJI Innovathon to members of the school community . In addition , the event challenged them to think out of the box and further empowered the students to foster design innovation and collaborative thinking . The event was a fulfilling experience that inspired students to start their journey of contributing to society and work towards the betterment of the community .
Year 4 IP students had the opportunity to have a practical application of the Design Thinking framework through their collaboration with various industry partners on projects relevant to sustainability . This year , the industry partners that the students collaborated with included Resorts World Sentosa , Food Bank , NParks , and Singhealth .
The students had to initially source for organisations based on their interests , investigate the needs of their partner organisations and independently design prototypes that met these needs . This allowed them to give back to their community and propose sustainable solutions to their respective organisations .
SF was a fruitful experience as students learnt how to properly communicate with external organisations under the guidance of teachers , along with honing their skills of time management , presentation , and of course , innovation .
