A heart moved by the desire to do good to others , a will of iron and a razor-sharp intellect ; these are qualities that Kristen possesses . A true Lasallian through and through , Kristen has served the SJI community dutifully with her talents .
Kristen ’ s proactive disposition towards learning is evident in her willingness to explore new ideas and act upon feedback given . She eagerly embraces new challenges and opportunities for growth , setting a shining example for her classmates . Kristen ’ s dedication to her studies and thirst for knowledge have led her to perform consistently well in her academic endeavours , and to also inspire her peers to take a more active role in their own education .
One of Kristen ’ s most admirable traits is her unwavering character , which encompasses moral courage and humility . She is steadfast in her commitment to doing what is right , even when faced with difficult decisions . Her humility allows her to admit it when she is wrong , learn from her mistakes , and grow as a person . Coupled with her kind and approachable demeanour , these qualities have led Kristen to forge strong relationships with those around her , and set her in good stead to exert a positive influence on them .
Kristen ’ s faith in the goodness of her peers at SJI has led her to take a major role in planning and carrying out initiatives that foster leadership skills in her juniors , namely the Lasallian Leadership Training Camps in 2022 . And again , in 2023 , where she served in the capacity of an Organising Team Mentor , helping her juniors to be proficient in carrying out their duties and forming a new , dependable batch of Year 5s for the next LLTC . She also served as a group facilitator for the Youth Leaders Dialogue held at SJI , where she engaged student leaders from other schools and shared about effective leadership practices . Kristen was also an Executive Committee Member of the Badminton CAS group . Utilising sport as a platform to bring the community together , she managed to build a supportive group of likeminded individuals . Through these initiatives , Kristen was able to make a difference by serving and leading others , encouraging and empowering them to do likewise .
Service to others is at the core of Kristen ’ s values . She recognises that the talents with which she has been blessed are meant to be shared with others , and always puts their needs before her own . Kristen ’ s desire to serve others springs from a deep sense of compassion and justice , and is evident not just in her interactions with the SJI community , but also in her volunteering with her constituency ’ s Meetthe-People sessions , where she assisted residents who were experiencing various difficulties , often lending a reassuring , listening ear in the process . Thus , she actively leverages on her strengths to build up the community in which she is rooted .
Brilliance and tenacity , tempered by a love of neighbour ; these sum up how Kristen has lived out SJI ’ s values of Faith , Service and Community . It is with pride that we confer the well-deserved Lasallian Distinguished Service Award on Kristen Ng Chin Woon .
