Global Education Programme ( GEP )

Amid the circumstances that 2020 brings , International Education at SJI took on a different look while still remaining true to the core of exposing and developing in Josephians the awareness of being global ( to know our region better ) and help them develop into Persons of Service and Persons for Others . For all Year 5 students - an adapted form of Global Education Programme ( GEP ) allowed Josephians to take their first steps in becoming Global Citizens and Persons for Others .
International Education is integral in today ’ s education so as to provide students with international mindedness , to see the world and gain the internationalization experience so vital in today ’ s borderless and interconnected world . GEP for the Year 5s provides an opportunity for Josephians to be engaged at a global level . This transformative curriculum hopes to lead students to learn through community engagement and connections . As a school , GEP provides the platform to nurture Josephians to become curious and passionate learners who create purposeful connections between learning and doing for effective leading and service .
In view of the current pandemic , GEP 2020 took on a new look with all Year 5s going global virtually to still provide Josephians to have that global exposure and develop them into Global Citizens and Persons for Others . The programme also aims to help Josephians partially fulfil their CAS requirements for the IBDP .
The challenges of the year provided Josephians with the opportunity to go overseas and collaborate with schools that would have been possible in pre-COVID times . The entire cohort of Year 5s were away 16 virtual trips to learn from the biggest classroom that we have - the world . For GEP 2020 , SJI will be collaborating with 30 schools / partners in 10 countries across 5 different time zones with each ‘ virtual ’ GEP trip would comprise , on average , of 6 weekly sessions of about 1.5 hours .
Lasallian InterNational Experience ( LINE )
The GEP is one that serves to broaden the horizons of every Josephian , enabling us to understand the needs and requirements of different communities around the world . Lasallian InterNational Experience ( LINE ) is one of the key project lines that allows students in the Lasallian Community to better appreciate the life story and experiences of St . John Baptist de La Salle , as well as his key tenets of Service , Faith and Community . The LINE programme encourages interconnectedness in the global community , by providing a basis for interaction and bonding amongst students from different nations . LINE inspires every Lasallian student to learn from De Lasalle ’ s journey and the values he embodies such as resilience , perseverance and faith . It allows one to open up to and better comprehend and empathise with issues that surround us ; concerns that may seem minor , but effectuate great impact , especially with regard to education or social justice . It invites all participants to fully reflect on the needs of our community and probes us to be more observant of environmental issues , problems in healthcare , education and many other sectors , as per the five core Lasallian principles . In LINE , we are encouraged to tackle problems that we are impassioned about , through creating and executing meaningful projects that strengthen our critical and reflective thinking , increases our global awareness and serves as a platform for cross cultural communication . This programme serves as an amazing opportunity for cultural interchange and community service . As such , the GEP LINE programme is definitely one that is insightful and eye opening . It is truly a reflective and meaningful programme that allows us to be grateful to be a part of the community and contribute back to our world as a global citizen .
