Do Thien Phuc ( LE402 )
As a school Prefect , Phuc is well-respected by his peers for his sense of responsibility and efficiency . When interacting with his friends , he is obliging and considerate . A good listener with strong moral courage , he can be counted on to be fair when carrying out his duties and to make sound decisions . His strong sense of initiative and leadership also enabled him to organise and run activities both in and out of class .
Academically , Phuc constantly strives to achieve good results . He is hardworking and displays perseverance . His strong interest and aptitude in Mathematics and Sciences saw him winning the Gold Medal in the Singapore Junior Biology Olympiad 2019 and the Bronze Medal in the Singapore Mathematics Olympiad ( Senior Section ).
Phuc shows traits of a leader . His leadership potential was developed as a Peer Support Leader and Facilitator where he played an important role of influencing his juniors positively at the Year 1 Orientation Camp . His Form Tutor , Mrs Lorraine Vastel , remarks , “ Phuc is a reflective leader who is always looking for ways to help his peers . Sometimes he guides them gently with compassion ; sometimes with the firm hand of an older and caring older brother .”
Phuc ’ s active involvement in Values in Action projects spanned over his two years in SJI . He arranged books at the National Library as a Library Volunteer . He taught Mathematics and Science to his peers in school as a Peer Tutor . He was also an active member in his boarding school , where he organized the collection of old newspapers in aid of a nursing home . In addition , he was involved in a student-initiated programme in Vietnam where he planned and conducted a one-day workshop on skills required for studying abroad . During the International Experience trip to Kanchanaburi , Thailand , he contributed to a cause he felt strongly about – the environment .
Phuc shows great promise as a student who embodies the school ’ s core values of faith , service and community . He dedicates his energy to help others without seeking anything in return . A servant leader , he is truly a worthy recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
Balanced in his involvement and pursuits , Phuc was equally committed to his Co-Curricular Activity , SJI Vocal Ensemble . He took pride in representing the school and excelling in numerous national and international competitions . As the Welfare Committee member , he organized training workshops for his juniors and together with the other leaders , led the ensemble in achieving the Gold Award in the 2019 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation ( Vocal Ensemble ) and the Gold Medal in the Oriental Concentus .
