Mr Nick Moughtin ( 20 Jul 2020 )
Nicholas Paul Moughtin , Head of our Senior School / Section from 2012 to 2017 , passed away from duodenal cancer on 20 July . He joined SJI in September 2012 to set up the IBDP . ver ve years he together ith the able team of teachers who began our IBDP , built it up to be strong and virant . Nics sterling effort is seen in the excellent reputation that SJI ’ s IBDP programme has in Singapore and around the world . Our present team of IB teachers build on his strong foundation and legacy . NIck will be remembered for his warm , infectious smile , his good humour and his penchant for white shirts . He will also be remembered for his love for his favourite English football club--not red but blue Everton .
As an educator , Nick had much care for his students ; he believed in the capacity of youth to do wonderful and amazing things given the opportunities . He leaves behind his memorable words to challenge our students at each orientation -- “ aim high and get involved .”
As a school leader , Nick was caring and collegial . He always prioritised care for staff rst . Nics contriutions to S are many and invaluable . For all he has done , we are immensely grateful . He has left his imprint on our school with the IBDP but ore signicantly he has touched our hearts and the hearts of all who have known him in far more profound ways that have given us life .
Mr Raynard Heah ( 30 Mar 2020 )
Raynard Heah passed away after a brave battle with a rare form of leukemia over more than a year .
Raynard joined SJI on 1 January 2017 and taught Geography across the classes in the IP-IB track . During his time in SJI , Raynard took a creative approach to teaching and was always willing to try new ways to engage his students . Many of them remembered him for challenging them to see things from different angles and daring to give life a try . His students loved him for the way he helped them to discover their voices and be more comfortable in their own skin .
Raynard left SJI a gift - a review of the Student Leadership that our Student Development Team is looking into . His concept paper helped us conceptualize Student Leadership as a talent area to admit Year 1 students under and to develop them . His vision was that every Josephian is a servant leader for the common good . He is dearly remembered for his passion to do the right thing so that SJI would have clarity and direction to care and develop these DSA students , as well as our student leaders .
Mr Felix Li Tai Ho ( 28 Apr 2020 )
An old boy from the Class of 1974 , Felix was instrumental in the establishment of the SJI Old Boys ’ Association ( SJIOBA ) in 1994 . He served as its founding president from 1994 - 1997 .
Mak Cik Amnah ( 22 Jun 2020 )
Dr Koh Chee Yeong ( 28 Mar 2020 )
Dr Koh Chee Yeong passed away after battling bravely against lung cancer for almost two years .
Chee Yeong was seconded to SJI as a Physics teacher on 1 Jan 2015 . He was with SJI for 4 years . While with us , he fell ill . During his time in SJI , he touched the hearts of many of his students ; they remember him with great affection . His generosity , kindness and good nature endeared him to students and staff alike .
Despite his short stint with SJI , Chee Yeong ’ s fondest memories were the Lombok trip in 2016 , the CAS group about programming and Arduino which he started , and his 1.5 years with the IB team , and the students from his first and also last IB class .
Mak Cik Amnah served us well with the Nasi Padang food she lovingly made each day . What touched us more than her food was the loving and sincere way she interacted with every one of us . Whether we came to her stall as a student or staff , she always greeted us with “ Hello , sayang .” We will miss her saying that to us , as we will miss her smile and laughter . Mak Cik Amnah was a gift to us in SJI and we mourn her passing . Mak Cik Amnah epitomized kindness and graciousness , and she made us a better community by challenging us to be as kind and gracious as she was . Let us remember her by acting in these ways as she did to us .
