Mr Jacky Wong
Jacky began teaching Chemistry in the IB Programme in 2017 . He is known for being open to learning new approaches to teaching and learning in an IB classroom that is more student-centred and inquirybased . In his four years with the school , Jacky has taken on various department responsibilities , including coordinating student participation in external competitions . A responsible teacher and mentor , his students are appreciative of his care and willingness to go the extra mile for them . In 2019 , he took on the role as IB Chemistry Coordinator . As a member of the newly formed Magis Scientia team , he worked with NUS and A * STAR in promoting scientific research among the students . He is a good friend to his colleagues as evidenced by their warm camaraderie during the daily Science Department lunches ; they will miss him .
Mr Jamues Ng
Jamues joined SJI in 2018 to teach Chemistry in the O Level Programme . He has taught his students with passion and enthusiasm . Many speak highly of his dedication and willingness to accompany them through the best and worst of times . While in SJI , Jamues has mentored students for a range of national competitions in the Sciences . He has the ability to unleash their potential and passion in the Sciences . He has also been an active teacher-advisor to the students in Dragonboat CAS . A trusted colleague and a responsible team player , Jamues has successfully accomplished the school-wide events and projects entrusted to him .
Mr Jason Pereira
Jason joined SJI in 2017 to teach Physical Education . He is an able PE teacher whose students speak highly of his pedagogy and positive Teacher Student Relationship . During his time in SJI , Jason helmed the RME in the secondary and senior sections and senior section as Subject Head , and has reviewed and refined these programmes which are now known as the Josephian Formation Programme . His hands-on approach to developing staff have ensured that these Josephian programmes remain relevant and meaningful . Jason has also been active in the Catholic life of the school by actively co-organising retreats for students with the Chaplaincy Team .
Mr Mark Tan
Mark has been with SJI since April 2017 . He joined the school as an English teacher for the IB Programme . He is well-known for his charisma and wit as well as his sophistication and candour , qualities that have endeared him to his students and colleagues . Since he joined SJI , Mark has played an instrumental role in developing Group 1 ’ s Literature and Performance course . As its coordinator and key teacher , his ability to nurture our students ’ learning and potential came alive in two excellent Literature and Performance showcases that he organised -- our students ’ performances were difficult , complex and ambitious but accomplished . He was also able to bring their academic standards up to par , achieving very good results in particularly the study of poetry . As part of the larger SJI family , Mark was in charge of Film CAS and helped students not only to appreciate film but also to create vital resources for school events such as Open House . Under his tutelage in this CAS , the quality of the students ’ productions have improved , drawing online applause from alumni .
Mr Ng Yew Hong
Yew Hong joined SJI in 2009 as a lower secondary Mathematics and Computer Studies teacher . In 2014 , he was appointed the Head of Integrated Programme and he served in that capacity from 2015 to 2017 . In 2018 , when the school re-organised itself into 3 Academies , Yew Hong was appointed Director of Academics , Foundation Programme Academy . As Head of Integrated Programme , he helped the school to clarify and re-articulate its framework for academic and holistic development . He conceived and spearheaded the Independent Study Module and the Academic Discovery Module approach in lower secondary in developing students ’ learning dispositions . He introduced the Independent Academic Project at Year 3 IP as an approach to deepen students ’ research and writing skills to better meet the requirements of the Extended Essay , which students have to do at Year Six . He made changes to the reporting system on student learning to include coursework and the IBDP grading system that suited the secondary school structure . These changes had a positive impact on both teachers and students , alike . In 2019 , he helmed a team to design the Innomakers Programme . To his many students , he is a caring and inspiring teacher . They appreciate how he attends to their needs and helps them to develop their learning styles . For many , Yew Hong is also a cherished colleague who has helped us to become better teachers .
