CHAPTER FOUR

ACE Camp

FN102 All set for kayaking
The ACE camp plays a pivotal part in the development of our Year 1 Josephians . After four days and three nights of vigorous outdoor activities in Pulau Ubin , the experience has not only forced them out of their comfort zone but it has also taught them how to better appreciate the comfortable city life that they are blessed with .
One vivid activity during the camp was the open sea kayaking where the boys drifted in the middle of the ocean , as their kayaks bobbed up and down along with the waves while singing ‘ Country Roads ’.
The outdoor cooking was also memorable for the boys . Having to juggle between cooking , eating and washing up in an hour was a feat for many .

Ryan Tan ( LE101 ): Having attended the ACE Camp , I am grateful for the exposures and experiences which have helped form a more resilient and caring me .
Ms Valerie Koh : The ACE camp is one of the hallmarks of the Josephian experience . Journeying with the boys as they completed various challenges was a rewarding experience . The students learnt to look past their initial discomfort to appreciate the outdoors and the people they were with : their instructors , teachers and friends . My co-form tutor and I were heartened to witness the boys pitching in to help their friends whenever they faced difficulties such as a possible food shortage as a result of poor planning or encouraging a friend who was learning how to cycle to persevere . We also discovered many budding entrepreneurs and master chefs through various activities .
