LEARNING JOURNEYS
Partnership with the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau ( CPIB ) collaborated with SJI since February 2019 . 44 students were involved in this project to produce a teaching tool on anticorruption for preschoolers . The organization was amazed and impressed with the creative and innovative ideas and the students ’ enthusiasm , energy and perseverance . The CPIB intends to take these good ideas further and continue to work with some of the students to develop their prototype ideas into actual teaching tools in Catholic kindergartens , with the hopeful endorsement from His Grace , Archbishop William Goh .
Partnership with Food from the Heart A group of students were keen to identify potential solutions regarding the issue of food poverty in Singapore . Their solution revolved around a ‘ middleman ’ operation , a bridge connecting organizations and people . They designed a working prototype of a phone application named Riža , which means rice in Croatian . This serves as a platform for key information such as statistics on the quantity of food wastage , reasons for food wastage and its dire consequences , to be relayed to the general public . The application allows users to choose and pay for what they want to buy for those who are suffering from food poverty . By working with the organisation and through exposure to such compelling evidence , the users will understand the severity of food poverty in this modern age .
SJI Project A group of students was given the opportunity to discuss and explore the issues within the school . The proposals came from two groups ; one focused on the issue of food waste and long queues , and the other on recycling and littering in SJI . The two groups designed an integrated solution for these issues after conducting a needs analysis and presented their proposals to the SJI VOICE Committee .
