Lasallian Distinguished Leadership & Service Award
Alexander Wilfred Chew Fu ( TG605 )
Well-respected by his peers for his integrity and his dedication to service and commended by his teachers for his tenacity and commitment to excellence , Alexander Chew is an exemplary student in many aspects . As a learner and a student , Alexander is diligent and has demonstrated much determination . He is enthusiastic in his pursuit of knowledge across all subjects . His teachers have found him to be a very conscientious student who works with much focus in class . He has also shown high intellectual capacity and perseveres when he meets with challenges in his academic studies .
As a student leader , Alexander has shown steadfast dedication to his role . He is a principled individual who believes in working not for himself but for the collective good of the community . Being the President of the Student Council has given Alexander the opportunity to make an impact on the wider school community . Together with the Student Council Executive Committee , the Head Prefect ( Secondary Section ) and councilors and prefects from the Year 4 and Year 6 cohort , Alexander headed the team in pushing for increased integration in the school community through the realignment of the event timeline for both the secondary and senior sections . Alexander was also pivotal in spearheading the inaugural Student Leaders Convention , Council Retreat and the inaugural combined student leader ’ s investiture . As a result of Alexander ’ s leadership , the seeds for a more integrated school community have been planted and more opportunities for collaboration between the two student councils have also been set in place .
As a highly effective leader , Alexander has had a hand in organizing various events and camps for the student body . These include the Anniversary Parade 2018 , Lasallian Leadership Training Camp 2018 , SJI Lasallian Catholic Youth Societies ( LYS ) Camp 2018 and SJI Mahalo Carnival . Alexander also recognized the need for a balanced life and availed himself of opportunities in personal growth by participating in Dragon Boat , Beacon and Photography . These experiences have greatly enriched Alexander and he has grown holistically — physically and emotionally . In recognition of his contributions to SJI , Alexander is a recipient of the 2019 Lasallian Distinguished Leadership and Service Award .
Alexander has made full use of his two years pursuing the IB Diploma and has made a positive impact on the SJI community . In spite of his achievements , Alexander has remained humble and grounded , which is highly commendable . Alexander is a fine example of a Josephian and an IB learner . Caring and compassionate , an inquirer and knowledgeable with a deep desire to contribute to the community , Alexander is a talented student leader with the will and potential to achieve great things .
