ROLL OF HONOUR
Secondary Section

Lasallian Distinguished Service Award

Yeo Jun Jie , Lucius ( FN402 )
Lucius is the lighthouse that constantly provides everyone with safe passage through the stormy waters of life . He is the cornerstone that keeps things from falling apart , the very foundation that holds things up . He reminds everyone that there is always a better way ; he reminds everyone that we can always be better .
Lucius devours knowledge and often challenges himself because he understands the difference between qualifications and an education . He defines his academic life through a spectrum of learning that has little to do with the requirements of an examination . He has taken full advantage of the liberal learning options under the Integrated Programme to fulfill his hunger for knowledge . He has explored social justice in his independent study by examining the impact the forms of punitive justice has on society ; delved into local social issues that plague Singaporeans ; dabbled in the sanguine aspects of art through the composition of poetry and writing competitions ; engaged fervently in debates and discussions in various seminars and symposiums , most notably the “ Think for the Future ” International Symposium at the Seifu Nankai Gakuen High School in Japan , where he had the opportunity to bridge cultures in sharing and interacting with student delegates from different countries regarding gender equality .
Mr Alan Chan , his Mathematics Tutor , finds that “ Lucius is a role-model to his peers , diligent in his work and exemplary in his conduct in class . He is earnest in his pursuit to do well in his studies and constantly strive to learn and better himself .”
Whole-heartedly committed to his chosen Core-Curricular Activity ( CCA ), Judo , Lucius balances the body and book with equal fervour and zeal . As a member of the SJI Judo Club , Lucius ’ s dedication to his CCA training saw him competing in Judo events , for SJI and external organisations where he consistently was placed in the top five . His achievement at the National Judo Individual Championships 2019 ( B Division ), where he was crowned champion , was fine affirmation of his devotion to the sport .
Ms Kassandra Lim , his CCA teacher-in-charge , says this of Lucius “ Lucius is a responsible young man who can be depended upon whenever he is tasked with a role . He possesses a positive attitude and is a positive role model for judokas in the Judo team . An effective Captain , he established good communication with his teammates and
was looked upon by his juniors as an inspiring and charismatic leader . He piqued the interests of his juniors , especially those new to Judo . He actively supported and encouraged the juniors during training sessions as well as annual National Championships , where team morale and camaraderie are utmost important . Lucius displayed a true champion of sportsmanship who has consistently displayed outstanding qualities and respect to officials and opposing teams , even in the face of adverse outcomes .“
Lucius ’ s leadership life in SJI has been filled with titles and labels – Judo Captain , Peer Support Leaders , and Facilitator . But at its heart , his leadership is defined by integrity and kindness . He is fully aware that being a leader is not about management ; it is about reaching out to people and giving them opportunities to become leaders themselves . Even outside of official school duties , in 2018 - 2019 , Lucius mentored his juniors from the lower secondary and helped them improve their English Language , providing a strong role model to many of them during times that demanded discipline and focus .
