Lasallian Distinguished Service Award

Nathanael Sutjiutama ( LE402 )
Nathanael Sutjiutama has created a positive impact in the four years he has been with the school . In the growth and development of his servant-leadership , he has served as Class Vice-Chairman , Prefect , Peer Support Leader , Peer Support Facilitator , Deputy Head Prefect and Student Councillor . Through his numerous leadership roles , he makes an attempt to understand the needs of his peers and communicate with them effectively to reach a common goal . Nathanael has been a touchstone for what is the right thing to do due to his unwavering moral compass which keeps him grounded . He displays strong moral courage and represents a high level of ethics in his actions and behaviour , influencing his peers to do likewise .
His form tutors , Ms Rita Roop and Ms Tan Kah Choon have this to say of him : “ A gentleman in every sense of the word , Nathanael impressed with his gallantry and kindness to all . His sense of reliability and selflessness were evident to all those who worked with him . As a leader , Nathanael works humbly behind the scenes to ensure that the programmes he is in charge of are not only a success , but overwhelmingly successful .”
Despite Nathanael ’ s numerous responsibilities , he sets high academic targets and constantly demands the best from himself . An intellectually competent and self-directed learner , he grasps complex concepts with relative ease . His Biology teacher , Ms Kassandra Lim maintains , “ Nathanael is very attentive and well behaved in class . His level of participation and attitude in class influences others in a positive and respectful way . He can be trusted with responsibilities and is ever ready to offer assistance to everyone around him . He also works effectively and willingly in collaboration with others ; as evident in the group projects and activities he undertook . Nathanael is able to assess and understand his strengths and limitations , and to pro-actively acquire knowledge , skills and dispositions to support his independent learning and personal development . It is a joy teaching him .”
His Mathematics tutor , Mr Fong Kok Hoong , adds , “ Nathanael always completes his work independently . He welcomes new tasks and seeks new opportunities for learning . He demonstrates a genuine concern for learning and approaches given tasks with a sincere desire to succeed . It is a pleasure to have him in my class .”
His Co-Curricular Activity teacher , Mr K Arul shares , “ Nathanael has shown himself to be a serious and determined player who believes in doing well in anything he is tasked to do . He trains very hard and takes training and matches seriously . He rose quickly in terms of work rate and skills to become the ‘ C ’ and ‘ B ’ Division Hockey Captain . His teammates draw inspiration from him and rally around him when they see him trying his best . It is also heartening to note that his sense responsibility and focus on getting a task done well have led him to assume other important roles such as Student Co uncillor , Prefect and others . Sometimes , he feels really stretched trying to manage all his responsibilities but he hardly complains and gets on with his job .”
Nathanael has shown great resolve and maturity in carrying out all the duties assigned to him . He sets a good example for his peers through his excellent conduct and selfless nature . He is a fine example of one who exemplifies the values and ethos of the school and has shown through his leadership style what it means to be a true Lasallian and Josephian .
