Lasallian Distinguished Service Award
Alessandro Louiz D ’ Silva ( FN403 )
Alessandro Louiz D ’ Silva is a true Josephian , a person of integrity with a strong sense of faith , service and community . When given a task , he can always be trusted to complete it to the best of his ability . He is also one who honours and upholds discipline and responsibility .
As Assistant Company Sergeant Major of SJI St John Brigade ( SJB ), Louiz clearly demonstrated a high level of competence and a strong sense of responsibility . He was also a committed member of his 2nd Co-Curricular Activity , Legion of Mary . Honest and trustworthy , he was accorded the role of Treasurer of the Legion of Mary ( Queen of all Saints ). As a Prefect , he displayed his organizational and leadership skills . He distinguished himself through his dedication in carrying out his daily duties , in addition to the numerous school-wide events . He was also a mentor of the school-wide Anti-Bullying Campaign organised to educate SJI students on effects of bullying and ways to prevent and stand up against it . A member of the school ’ s Prefect Executive Committee , he and his committee members organized and executed the prefect camp among other duties .
Mrs Wang Pei Feng , his form and Mathematics tutor , shares , “ Louiz has distinguished himself as an exemplary student who displays great sense of responsibility . True to the spirit of a Josephian , he never hesitates to go that extra mile to render assistance to others . A good listener , he shows empathy when communicating with others . His good interpersonal skills make him a respected member of the class . He has a cheerful disposition and always has a ready smile that never fails to brighten anyone ’ s day .”
His form tutor , Ms Tan Lay Moi , comments “ Louiz is a polite student who is very respectful of his teachers . He displays great initiative and is highly motivated too . I have never once seen him turn away anyone who goes to him for help .”
Ms Wong Kah Yan , his Prefectorial Board mentor and Physics tutor , adds , “ Louiz is a steadfast and reliable student who is extremely meticulous in the discharge of his duties , one of which is to ensure the fair allocation of duties to his peers and juniors in the Prefectorial Board . He does all his duties with a cheerful smile and a willing heart , something which even the most saintly of us find difficult to manage sometimes . When he passes me practice papers or assignments to be marked , it is always done with an apologetic ‘ I ’ m sorry but could you help me with this ?’ - Louiz is indeed ever obliging and is never one to take others for granted .”
When nominating Louiz for the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award , Mr Lim Meng Chye , Officer-in-Charge of St John Brigade , had this to say , “ Louiz led well as an Assistant Sergeant Major , as well as a competition team member in St John Brigade . He exemplified the values of SJI as a leader by being a model among his peers as well as his juniors on how to be a true Lasallian first aider . Faith : when he trusts in God : and depends on Him for strength , wisdom and love as he treats the casualties ; Community : as he leads with close collaboration with and support for each other in the CCA ; and Service ; as he gives of himself to the CCA in terms of time , energy , care and skills . He has left behind a great legacy in the CCA which his successors have cherished and will be proud to continue .”
Louiz has made a positive impact on the lives of many of his peers . He will definitely go that extra mile to render assistance to others by virtue of the fact that he values relationships and possesses deep-seated sensitivity and empathy . He has made a significant difference to the community and certainly a worthy recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award .
