Spirit of SJI Award & Lasallian Distinguished Service Award

Theodore Tang Chee Mun ( MN402 )
Theodore is a Josephian , with a strong sense of faith , service and community . He is resilient and strives for excellence in all that he does . Possessing moral integrity , he exudes confidence , determination and drive to achieve success in whatever he sets his mind to do .
As a student leader , his commendable spirit of selfless dedication to all under his care is admirable . His peer , Choun Ray An , from LE401 notes , “ Theodore is not only a friend whom I can rely on , but also a role model l can look up to and emulate . When I first met Theodore , he had just been appointed the Class Chairman of my near impossibleto-manage Secondary 1 Class , ML102 . Despite the overwhelming pressure and tasks that he had to complete as a student and Chairman , he maintained his composure and managed the challenges efficiently . He knew that by doing so , he was making the day lighter and more joyful for those he was responsible for . The need to make another person ’ s day drives him to be selfless and to go beyond the call of duty .”
Theodore has not only gained the admiration of his peers and friends but also his teachers .
Mr Joseph Edison , his Co-Curricular Activity ( CCA ) teacherin-charge ( Squash ) and Outdoor Education comments , “ Theodore is a shining example of a student leader . He showed tremendous initiative in all his four years as a member of his CCA , Squash and as an Adventure Camps & Expeditions ( ACE ) Leader . He always stepped out of his comfort zone by suggesting novel but practical ideas for the betterment of those around him . It was never about himself , but of living out the mission of being a Man for Others . He worked hard to garner the support of his teammates and was always open to suggestions for improvement . He mooted the idea of ACE leaders meeting up with their Year 1 classes before the actual camp . This idea was well-received by the form tutors . These sessions helped in bonding among the ACE leaders and the classes they were put in charge of way before the actual camp . This was instrumental in helping the 2018 ACE Camp run like clockwork . As the Squash Captain , Theodore was always ready to offer his time and expertise to plan for the CCA camps and activities . He led by example and was one his teachers and peers could depend on .”
His form tutors , Ms Periasamy and Mr Jeremy Liew have this to say of him , “ Theodore is highly disciplined and motivated to excel . He is attentive during lessons and is always eager to improve himself academically . Articulate and unafraid to speak his mind , he is able to contribute to the quality of class discussions with his knowledge and evaluative skills . Within his class , he is easily the most diligent and consistently driven student .”
Theodore embodies the qualities of an exemplary student and has displayed utmost sincerity in doing his best academically as well as serving his community . His willingness to make sacrifices and his high level of commitment to bring about change for the betterment of his juniors , peers and community make him a worthy recipient of the Lasallian Distinguished Service Award and the Spirit of SJI Award .
