On 10 April , SJI held our annual BLOODay – a blood donation drive , seeking donors from both teachers and students alike . With the CAS entering its fifth year of operation , BLOODay members collaborated with the Singapore Red Cross and Health Sciences Authority to ensure that the donation drive would be a success .
From designing and putting up posters around the school , to fumbling about in the mascot costumes , our new members publicized the drive and ensured it ran smoothly . Response from the school was heartening . A total of 57 students and staff came forward to donate blood . Out of the 57 people , 41 of them successfully donated and 24 of them were first-time donors . Each bag of blood can save up to three lives . Although the bags of blood collected is encouraging , our members are motivated to further heighten awareness of the importance of blood donation and reach out to more members of the school community .

The success of BLOODay is only possible when there are willing donors , supportive students and staff . Even though a number of donors were rejected due to the stringent donation criteria , we believe and hope many more will come forward to donate in 2020 .
