CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ( CCA ) & CREATIVITY ACTIVITY AND SERVICE ( CAS )
This year , SJI Green Club collaborated with the planning committee for class leaders and initiated a training workshop for the Year . 1 green ambassadors . The objective is to create an awareness about the environmental efforts in SJI and equip them with the basic skills and right mindsets to keep their classrooms clean . This training will be an annual feature from this year .
Nature conservation and biodiversity continues to be an important part of our programme as we partnered National Parks Board in their Learning Forest Educational Programme for the second year .
Over 4 hands-on sessions , the students learnt about horticultural maintenance , invasive species management , habitat enhancement and tree inventory . They also conducted a wildlife survey to record the data of birds , butterflies and dragonflies . These sessions really enriched their learning and the boys enjoyed themselves very much .
In the month of April leading to Earth Day , an art installation called ‘ plastic wave ” was built at the foyer . This was a collaborative effort between the SJI Green Club and Ecology Club to raise awareness towards the dire issue of marine plastic pollution that is causing many marine animals to die . The school community was also encouraged to join in to build the installation and grow the wave by recycling their empty plastic water bottles . Hence , by taking the right actions , everyone in SJI makes a concerted effort to be part of the solution and not part of the problem .
