She is tainted brown , caressed with nature ’ s love . She has six strings held by a musical tension . He picks her up , finds in her six strings more than just an ordinary instrument - a harmony , an orchestra , a chorus of humanity . A simple blend of wood , six strings , a genuine love for music and unity makes up the Guitar Ensemble .
This year marks a momentous phase in our journey together as we celebrate the 14th year of our establishment . As we look back at our journey while reflecting on the Lasallian tercentenary , it is incredible to note our presence in this Lasallian community . We began and continue with St . John Baptist de la Salle ’ s enduring values of being committed to our craft and embracing the community with one heart , one commitment , one life .
For us , we see music as a platform for expression of ourselves and a representation of who we are .
Music exchange at RI
Through music , we have come to bond as one through the Bonding Camp we had at the start of the year . Through music , we inspire our juniors , as we had during the Year 1 Orientation and the Arts Alive events . Through music , we build communities for life .
The Singapore Youth Festival ( SYF ) Presentation provided a critical platform for us to grow and excel . Achieving the Certificate of Distinction , we learned the value of finding joy in everything we do while keeping in us a strong flame of faith . The Year 3s , awarded high distinction by the Trinity College London Examinations ( Intermediate ) in 2018 , performed at the prestigious award ceremony , proving again the mettle of our ensemble . We never count the number of pieces we learn , nor the hours we spend , but we measure the combined emotions and sincerity that we truly infuse into our music .

With music , we also embraced our community at the Banda Elderly Centre , bringing them the finest oldies which certainly struck a chord in each of them . Playing our guitars while singing the songs with the old folks , we managed to capture their hearts and allowed them to live the joys of youth again . Truly , music never grows old .
Our concert , Lodestar , captured yet a deeper essence of what the ensemble meant . From bold ensemble pieces to the fine and meticulous small group performances , our ensemble showcased what we really could do with a heart and together with one another . That night , it was a celebration of music as humanity ’ s brush of colour , excitement and wisdom .
For us , the personification of music comes not only from minims , crotchets or the treble clef , but the pulse of the ensemble . It is with this spirit that we play with a greater mission of sharing music with others .
Attending the Hanabi Concert at SOTA
As we continue to grow , we are reminded that our past narrative is a guide : the true lodestar comes from within us . Who knows what next year holds for us ?
