CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ( CCA ) & CREATIVITY ACTIVITY AND SERVICE ( CAS )
The SJI St . John Brigade ( SJB ) is a distinguished Uniformed Group which places great emphasis on strengthening First Aid proficiency in our cadets while simultaneously inculcating the values of humanitarian aid and service for the good of the society . Following the St . John motto of “ Pro Fide ” - ‘ For the faith ’ and “ Pro Utilitate Hominum ” - “ In the service of Humanity ’, SJB has developed a blooming culture in which cadets are imbued with the spirit of helping those in need .
2019 has been a notable year of accomplishments and achievements for our corp . The Anniversary Parade , during which our cadets rendered help and provided First Aid services , served as a platform to recognize the active contributions and efforts of our Year 4 seniors as we bade them farewell . SJB also plays an active role in providing First Aid support for school events such as the annual Crosscountry and Sports Day .
Squad Gemini won two trophies from national competitions
Apart from taking part in school-related events , SJI SJB also participated in many national events such as the annual Flag Day and Walkathon hosted by the St John Headquarters . Year 2 and 3 cadets must attend a rigorous 3-Day 2-Night Basic Non-commissioned Officer Course ( BNCO ) and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course ( ANCO ) respectively . These camps train our senior cadets in becoming even more responsible and compassionate leaders , while equipping them with critical problem solving and trainee management skills . This effectively ensures that they are well prepared and suited for their new roles as Non-Commissioned Officers ( NCOs ).
For the first time in 10 years , we had the privilege of competing in the National First Aid Competition in June this year . Our Year 3 squad , Gemini , came in 3rd position for the categories of Short Case as well as Foot Drills . Our best cadets , Chong Ka Lok Ashton ( FN301 ), Cheng Qi Wei , Darius ( FN302 ), Toh Zhan Wei ( FN302 ), Jaryl Yip Jia Le ( MN303 ) and Ryan Lee Zhong Yang ( ML303 ) successfully completed the Basic Drill Instructor course ( BDI ) in March this year .
Activities such as First Aid lessons , physical and foot drill trainings are held on a weekly basis , to ensure that our cadets are consistently strong at both their intellectual and physical capabilities as first-aiders . By engaging in such activities , cadets are challenged to nurture their fighting spirit as true Josephians , whilst being given the opportunity to grow and mature holistically as individuals in a well-bonded community .
